RYA Safe and Fun

Course overview

An online safeguarding course for RYA instructors, volunteers and anyone working with children and vulnerable adults in an RYA environment.

Course duration

This course is equivalent to classroom training of approximately three hours. However, the benefit of learning online is that you can work through it at your own speed. It may take you more or less time than that.

Content

An introduction to safeguarding and child protection.

Qualification gained on successful completion

Understand good safeguarding practice, how to recognise potential signs of abuse, how to deal with it and who to refer any concerns to.
The successful candidate is awarded an electronic RYA Safe and Fun certificate.

Computer / browser requirements

Please make sure that you use a suitable computer and web browser to complete the course. The minimum computer requirements are:

  • Mac or PC with JavaScript enabled in your web browser.
  • iPad (iOS 6 or above)
  • Android Tablet on OS 4.1 or above (we advise using Google Chrome NOT default Android browser)
  • Please make sure your web browser is on the latest version, particularly Google Chrome and Safari
  • Please note, the RYA cannot guarantee the course will work on all Android Tablets as the variety on the market is so vast, but the RYA testing so far has been successful.

Booking Process Steps

Step One - book a place

Book your place below. Make sure that your email will receive communications from safeandfun@ncsc.org.uk.

Step Two - RYA Interactive website account creation

Once booked, the NCSC Safe and Fun administrator (volunteer) will create your RYA Interactive website account. Our aim is to do this as quickly as possible, but please be aware that this step may take a few days. We will then send you an email containing your log in details and notes to help you get started.

Step Three - complete the training

Follow the steps in the email to log in to RYA Interactive website and complete your online course. You will need to complete a knowledge check at the end and achieve a 50% pass mark to be awarded an RYA Safe and Fun certificate.
