Courses available
The following RYA Adult Dinghy courses are available at Notts County Sailing Club:
- Level 1 - Start Sailing an introduction to sailing dinghies for complete beginners, covering everything you need to know to get afloat under supervision. You will learn how to sail in all directions and develop an awareness of launching and recovery.
- Level 2 - Basic Skills progress quickly from beginner to a competent sailor in light winds, in a controlled, safe and enjoyable environment.
- Level 3 - Better Sailing improve your sailing, consolidating skills and trying new ones in a variety of conditions.
Price per course level
Members £140, Non-members £185
Course duration
Each course level is 3 days or the equivalent number of sessions
Minimum age
None (although under 16s may prefer to learn through the Youth Sailing Scheme)
Format
Predominantly afloat but with some classroom elements.
What's included
- Use of boats, training materials and equipment.
- Course handbook, certificate and syllabus/logbook.
You will need to bring
- Depending on the time of year, the Galley may be open for the purchase of breakfast, lunch and hot and cold drinks. If it will not be, you will be advised in advance so that you can bring your own food. Hot water will always be available.
- If you already have a syllabus/logbook, please bring it with you, including any certificates attached inside.
- Buoyancy aid of correct specification (one will be provided if you do not have your own)
- Correct seasonal wetsuit or drysuit (the club do not have wetsuits available to hire)
- For inclement weather, a waterproof outer spray top or coat, trousers and base layers are recommended
- Appropriate enclosed footwear, i.e. wetsuit boots or trainers that can get wet. Crocs and open-toed shoes aren't suitable for sailing.
- Neoprene wetsuit socks aren't essential, but help to keep your feet warm and well worth the investment, particularly in cooler months.
- Appropriate seasonal hat
- Gloves - sailing or thin gardening gloves
- Swimming costume and towel
- Sunscreen
- Water bottle
- Change(s) of clothing
