RYA Youth Dinghy Courses August 2026

The RYA Youth Dinghy Stage 1 Start Sailing course is an introduction to the parts of the boat and the basic principles of how to get a boat sailing.

Course pre-requisites: None

The RYA Youth Dinghy Stage 2 Start Sailing course develops the skills needed to sail around a course and understand the basic principles needed to become a confident sailor.

Course pre-requisites: Sailing skills to the standard of Stage 1 (Able to sail across the wind, steer and understand the basic principles of sailing)

The RYA Youth Dinghy Stage 3 Start Sailing course builds confidence and develops the skills needed to sail in different directions in moderate conditions.

Course pre-requisites: Sailing skills to the standard of Stage 3 (Improved rigging, sailing theory, launching and recovery. Confidence in a range of sailing techniques on all points of sail and capsize recovery.)
For our Stage 3 or 4 (intermediate) courses and advanced courses, we prefer students to use their own boat. Please tell us if you will be using your own boat, or require the loan of a club boat for the course. We also require participants to practise sailing regularly through i.e. Saturday Club, club racing. If you are not sure if you have the required experience for this course, please email ryadinghy@ncsc.org.uk.

Learn how to sail a double-handed boat as crew or helm and solve a variety of problems afloat during the RYA Youth Dinghy Stage 4 Start Sailing course.
